A dumbbell lateral raise is largely a fight against swing. Bands do not swing, so every rep has to be lifted rather than thrown. The side Delts get worked properly and the joint takes none of the punishment.

Standing Lateral Raise With Bands start and finish positions

Set Up

Anchor: None needed.

Bands: Clip a handle to each end of the band.

Body position: Stand on the band with your feet hips width apart and grip a handle in each hand. Stand tall, back straight, head straight, chest up, stomach tight. Start with your arms at your sides, slightly bent, palms facing in.

Movement

Raise your arms straight out to the sides until your elbows are at shoulder height. Return under control and repeat.

Points To Remember

  1. Rotate your upper arm forward slightly as you raise, so your elbows finish higher than your hands.
