If you gave up barbell squats because of what they did to your knees or your back, this is the version to come back to. Bands generate no momentum, so nothing slams through the joint at the bottom of the rep. You still get the Quads and Glutes, without the wear.

Squats With Bands start and finish positions

Set Up

Anchor: None needed.

Bands: Clip a handle to each end of the band.

Body position: Stand on the band with both feet, hips width apart. Squat down, grip a handle in each hand and bring the handles up to shoulder height with the bands running behind your arms, palms forward. Stand up straight. Back straight, head straight, chest up, elbows back.

Movement

Bend your legs and squat down as though you were sitting into a chair.

Points To Remember

  1. Keep your chest up and your back flat throughout.
  2. Keep your knees tracking over your toes.
